Oxford International Short Film Festival to go Online

Hello again!

Firstly we hope you and all of your loved ones are keeping safe and healthy.

It probably comes as little surprise we will be running the festival online this year. This takes us a considerable distance away from our original intentions, but we are currently in lock-down and could all use some welcome distractions.

The way we intend to run is perhaps a little different to how some of the other online festivals are currently operating. Rather than just showing everything at once, we intend to break our films up into thematic blocks. Every week we will focus on a new set of films within a particular genre. The blocks will be:

  1. Local Docs/Romance?
  2. Other Worlds (Science Fiction and Fantasy)
  3. Documentaries
  4. Nightmares (Horror/Supernatural/Gothic)
  5. UK Drama
  6. Micro-shorts (Films under 5 minutes, experimental films and music videos)
  7. Children’s Films
  8. International Films
  9. Loss (Dramas)
  10. Thrillers/Crimes Doesn’t Pay
  11. Comedy/Kooky

This gives audience members time to watch things (and we hope you will also discover a few gems in genres which might be outside of your usual comfort zone).  The first block will begin on Friday 8th May and the final block will end on Thursday 23rd July. We will be playing 135 of our entries from this year’s programme. Many of the filmmakers have also agreed to do Question and Answer sessions for their films. We plan to hold live Zoom Q&A chats every Thursday between 8-10pm BST once the festival is running. We also plan to run talks and masterclasses covering a range of different topics including crowdfunding tips, improving your chances of festival success and how to adjust your festival strategy in light of COVID-19.

All existing ticket-holders and filmmakers who have been selected as part of this year’s programme will have free access (we’ll be in contact with you soon). If you are not a selected filmmaker or existing ticket holder, we will be issuing tickets for £5.80 (includes Eventbrite handling fee). Any profits raised from this will be donated to charities supporting our local National Health Service workers who are tirelessly helping others affected by the Coronavirus outbreak.

We hope you are all staying safe and well!
